Sixth-place Cougars dropped an important two points in a 7-5 loss to the seventh-place Morrisburg Lions on Saturday.

The Cougars took the lead in the first and second periods, pulling ahead to 4-3 after 40 minutes. Morrisburg came back in the third scoring four goals and conceding one to win the game 7-5.

Brenden Easterbrook, Thomas Kelly and Maxime Laliberté each scored a goal for Vankleek Hill. Two goals came from assistant captain Eric Skyba.

The Cougars still stand at a comfortable nine points ahead of the Lions in the National Junior Hockey League standings, with two games in hand. However, a win on Saturday night would’ve allowed Cougars to jump ahead of St-Isidore, who is in fifth place, one single point ahead of Cougars with two more games to play.

The Cougars’ Sunday night game against St-Isidore was postponed due to bad weather. The game will be played on January 14, 8 p.m. at the St-Isidore Arena.
