South Nation Conservation is hosting its 13th annual Youth Fish Camps starting in July, adding new camps and locations to reach more young anglers across the watershed.

The annual summer camps encourage youth between the ages of 9 and 13 to explore fishing opportunities at the South Nation Conservation Authority’s (SNC) recreation sites, and familiarize them with the natural environment through responsible and sustainable fishing.

“These camps deliver an invaluable outdoor learning experience for youth,” stated Kelsey Smith, SNC stewardship and outreach assistant. “Kids are given the chance to fish all day, learn a new outdoor hobby, make new friends, and connect with nature.”

During the two-day fishing camp, participants learn about the natural environment, water quality testing and the fundamentals of fishing.

Smith considers recreational fishing programs important for promoting sustainable angling practices and a better understanding of healthy ecosystems.

“There is a lot of value in continuing with these camps,” stated Smith.

Running throughout July and August, camps are held at Cass Bridge Conservation in Winchester, High Falls Conservation Area in Casselman, and Jessup Falls Conservation Area in Plantagenet. Cardinal Legion Way Park in Cardinal will host its first annual camp in August.

Information on registration is available at the SNC South Nation website or by contacting Smith at 1-877-984-2948, ksmith@nation.on.ca.
