Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officers responded to a fatal collision on April 15. Shortly after 4:00 p.m., two vehicles collided on Highway 417 Eastbound near Casselman. One of the vehicles went off the roadway and hit a tree.

The Nation Township Fire Department and the Prescott-Russell Emergency Medical Services (EMS) attended the scene. Four people were transported to the hospital with serious injuries, and a fifth was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.

Due to the ongoing investigation, Highway 417 Eastbound is currently closed between mile markers 66 and 79. Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the Russell County OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
