Planning begins for new community fire stations

Council approved a recommendation from Fire Chief Richard J. Groulx during its January 10 session to hire an architectural engineering firm to prepare specification plans for the St-Isidore and St-Albert community fire halls. Ottawa-based Integrated Design Engineering Architecture (IDEA) was the successful of two bidders for the contract at $63,545.

The municipal Fire Master Plan urges construction of a new fire hall to replace the St-Albert station that is now old and obsolete. The plan also recommends either renovating the existing station in St-Isidore if that is feasible or building a new one that will meet the fire protection needs of the community.

Groulx told council the consultant’s future report on suggested plans and specifications for the two fire stations will help council and staff with construction budget planning for the projects. Funding for the architectural engineering study will come out of the municipal fire department reserve fund.
