During their regular meeting on November 15, Russell Township Council received a report detailing funding received by the United Counties of Prescott and Russell (UCPR) from the Ontario Cannabis Legalization Implementation Fund (OCLIF), an initiative to help with the implementation costs of the legalization of recreational cannabis.
The money was provided on a per-household basis through OCLIF to every municipality that did not opt out of hosting cannabis retail stores. Every municipality will receive at least $5,000, but the report states that the UCPR received $94,933 in funds that have yet to be expended; council wants that money redistributed to the municipalities.
The report also states that municipalities may freely transfer any money from the OCLIF program between each other, but the UCPR still remains responsible for ensuring that municipalities comply with the terms and conditions of the funding.
The report was received with no further discussion.
