Clarence-Rockland was the victim of a cybersecurity attack Monday and experts are still identifying the targets.

The City of Clarence-Rockland has disabled its email service at the municipal office after experiencing a cybersecurity attack on Monday, October 25. The municipality is still investigating the extent of the attack, as well as what data was affected, and cybersecurity experts have been called in to right the situation.

“We’re working with cyber experts in the field, and we have full confidence in them to bring us back online and provide results in the investigation,” said Clarence-Rockland Mayor Mario Zanth. “Our goal is to be fully transparent once this process ends and to communicate with residents once this investigation is complete.”

The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have been informed, and no further information will be released in order to preserve the integrity of the investigation.

“The investigation is still ongoing,” said Zanth, “and the municipality will release information as it sees fit to do so pending information from the investigation. We’re obviously upset that this has happened. It’s caused a huge issue in communication.”
