Municipal drain study approved

Municipal drain study approved

Township council held a special July 14 session to consider two time-sensitive issues. One of them concerned approving an engineering review report on the Smith Municipal Drain.

Public Works Director Sebastien Levesque noted in his report to council that the last assessment of the municipal drain was done in 2005 before some “extensive work” was done in the adjacent La Seigneurie subdivision. The 2005 assessment report did not include results or impacts from the new construction so an updated review is needed.

Levesque also told council that culverts on Eliza Street and Lecours Street “need to be replaced very soon because of rust.” That emphasizes the need for a new engineering review of the municipal drain so the public works department can plan for replacement of the suspect culvert sections.

Council approved a recommendation to have Lascelles Engineering & Associates Ltd. do an engineering report on the municipal drain. Cost of the study is estimated at $15,190 and will be billed to the La Seigneurie subdivision developer under the terms of an agreement between the company and the township.
