The sky was sombre for the morning of the funeral procession tribute for Guy Desjardins.

A silent crowd of several dozen people, including municipal staff of the City of Clarence-Rockland, city councilors, the mayors of Prescott-Russell, local residents and others, lined up on both sides of Laurier Street outside of the city hall on July 8.

Traffic barricades were set up on Laurier Street at the intersections with St-Joseph Street and Simoneau Street to detour vehicles away from the city hall neighbourhood prior to the start of and during the funeral procession.

The process began at 10:30, with two OPP vehicles preceding the funeral hearse that carried Guy Desjardins, mayor of Clarence-Rockland, to his final resting place. About two dozen vehicles were part of the procession.

As the procession passed in front of City Hall, the crowd of onlookers bowed their heads, and placed hands on hearts in a final salute and farewll to Guy Desjardins.

The funeral service and procession were broadcast live on the city’s Facebook page for residents. The link is at https://www.facebook.com/clarencerockland/videos/1456065584753502.
