One dead, one injured in parking lot incident

One man died and another person was injured after a truck with an elevated work platform tipped over on Monday morning.

The Hawkesbury Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Prescott-Russell Paramedic Service, and the Hawkesbury Fire Department responded to the incident in the Spence Avenue parking lot at about 8:00 a.m. Charles Sproule, 71, of Champlain Township was pronounced dead at the scene.

Another person, aged 34, was taken by Ornge Ambulance Service to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The Ontario Ministry of Labour is investigating the incident.

Emergency services blocked off the entrances to the parking lot, which serves Dollar Tree and FreshCo, at Spence Avenue and Industriel Boulevard for some time after the incident.
