The end of 2020 is a couple weeks away and Hawkesbury council has a plan approved now for use of any money that might be left over from the municipal budget at the end of December.

Council approved recommendations in a finance department report during its December 14 session. The report outlined possible uses for any surplus funds from the 2020 budget.

The year-end financial report on Hawkesbury’s 2020 municipal budget won’t be ready until either January or February 2021. The report recommends allocating any surplus money to reserves to ensure funds are available to compete particular projects for municipal operations. The finance department will include suggestions on which reserves should receive the surplus money when it presents the 2020 year-end report to council at a later date.

For now, council approved the department’s preliminary recommendation that if there is a surplus of $25,000 from the 2020 budget to either the capital or another reserve fund.
