A Vankleek Hill man is $218,014 richer after winning second prize in a Lotto 6/49 draw.

Daniel Larente got an unusual Halloween shock when he matched five numbers plus the bonus number to win the prize in the October 31 draw. The 61-year-old said he planned to spoil his three children, pay off bills and save for his and his wife’s retirement.

“I choose random numbers I like,” he said. “When I used the OLG Lottery App to check my ticket I couldn’t believe what I was seeing! It was the best Halloween I’ve had!”

According to the OLG website, the odds of such a win were one in 2,330,636. “We were both in complete shock,” Larente said. “It’s the nicest surprise you can get.”

The winning ticket was sold at Depanneur Lalande on Main Street in Vankleek Hill.
