The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has obtained a warrant to arrest a St Albert man almost five years after the murder of Frederick “John” Hatch.

The OPP announced early Thursday afternoon they had charged Danick Miguel Bourgeois, 28, of St Albert with second degree murder in connection to Hatch’s 2015 death. Officers urged him to surrender to the nearest police service immediately.

Hatch’s body was found near the town of Erin on December 17, 2015, nearly 450 kilometres away from where he was last seen alive. The 65-year-old had been seen the day before in the Ottawa area, at the corner of West Hunt Club and Merivale roads in Nepean.

Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Bourgeois was urged to call the OPP’s dedicated tipline toll-free at 1-833-517-8477, their local police service, or to contact CrimeStoppers if they wished to remain anonymous. Members of the public were asked not to approach Bourgeois directly, but to instead call the police.

“We are asking everyone possible to share this message as widely as you can to get the message out and to bring Mr Bourgeois into custody,” A/Staff Sergeant Kerry Schmidt said.
