“At least another four or five days,” said Dr. Paul Roumeliotis, during a June 8 media teleconference, regarding how much longer the the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) needs to continue monitoring for any new cases of COVID-19 at the nursing home.

The EOHU declared an outbreak situation at the Limoges nursing home at the end of May when a staff member, who lives in Ottawa, tested positive for COVID-19. The employee had undergone testing May 4 with a negative result, then later showed symptoms and went for re-testing.

All of the residents and other staff at the nursing home were tested over the first week of June. Dr. Roumeliotis reported all those tests came back negative.

The nursing home has been under a standard 14-day observation period for COVID-19, dating from the time when the infected staff member tested positive. If no one else shows symptoms of the disease by the end of this week, EOHU officials will be able to declare the outbreak situation resolved.
