Pierre Leroux will have an additional job next year. When he’s not being mayor of Russell Township, he will be the warden for the United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

“I would like to increase communication and economic development,” Leroux said Wednesday about some of his goals as warden-elect.

It will be the first time for Leroux sitting in the warden’s chair. He takes over from Mayor Robert Kirby of East Hawkesbury, who steps down from the position next month.

Every year a new warden is chosen from among the eight mayors sitting on the United Counties of Prescott and Russell council (UCPR). By tradition, candidate selection for the position alternates each year between someone chosen from the mayors of Prescott County or from those based in Russell County.
