The HMCS Fredericton is coming to Cornwall next week. The frigate will be in Cornwall on Wednesday and Thursday, the second-last stop in a seven-city tour which began Aug. 24. The purpose of the tour is threefold, according to the Canadian Armed Forces website: Showcasing the navy, recruiting new sailors and sharing naval centennial celebrations. “GLD 10 (Great Lakes Deployment 10) is a deployment that provides a unique opportunity to connect with Canadians in the provinces of Ontario and Quebec,” said Commander John Zorz, Fredericton’s commanding officer.

“While primarily a naval recruitment vehicle, GLD 10 will also increase awareness of the navy and the CF in general, provide opportunities to connect with key influencers, and extend a naval presence consistent with the goals of the naval centennial.” People visiting the frigate will be able to view the career opportunities available within the Canadian Forces, specifically the navy, according to the www.forces.ca website.  “While onboard, you will have the opportunity to speak with sailors, ask questions, and hear their heroic, heart-warming, and inspiring stories from their deployments around the world. You can tour the ship and even handle some of our sophisticated technology and equipment.”
